Garmin 60CSx software downgrade

After doing some research online regarding the problems I’d encountered while driving with our Garmin 60CSx, I discovered that others had run into the same problem when it tries to recalculate the route.  The concensus was that the problem started when users had upgraded to version 3.90 of the software.

While working on our “caching” laptop recently, we noticed that the GPSr had v3.60 on it, so we updated it to v3.90.  While there’s no mention of the problem on Garmin’s website, I found a link to version 3.70, downloaded it, and downgraded the software in the GPS.  After updating (downgrading) the software,  all the settings, counters, etc. were reset back to the defaults.

We’ll see how the GPSr performs when we go up to Canada in a few weeks.

Caching home from GW7 – GPSr problems resurface

2trux & candlelady decided to get off the Interstate, so we could visit the Bass Pro Shop.  Our friend, jtee, is looking for camo tape and we bought some at another Bass Pro.  After exiting the freeway, the Garmin 60CSx decided to act up again.  Screen would fade out, then turn itself off.  2trux was getting perturbed – we weren’t quite sure where we were going and the GPSr kept turning itself off.  Finally got to Bass Pro and got what we needed.

After navigating back to I-65, the GPS started to behave itself again.  At this point, we’re thinking we might need a new GPSr.

Caching our way to GW7 [day 2] – GPSr problems

2trux encountered some serious problems with our Garmin 60CSx today.  We first noticed it acting up, while we were in the Cave Hill Cemetery.  There were times when it seemed to freeze up.  With it set on a particular waypoint, the numbers didn’t change.  Since we’d been here before, we knew where to go – even if the GPSr wasn’t being cooperative.

After we left the cemetery and started heading for GW7, we had a few occassions where the screen would fade and then the unit would turn itself off.  2trux would turn it back on, reselect the waypoint in our “recent finds” and continue on our way.  We tried changing batteries, removing and reseating the memory card, but it didn’t resolve the problem.

2trux was a bit concerned, since we had left our Magellan Meridian Color GPS at home.  Travelling to a major event with a broken GPSr will be a bummer!
